Assignment 3


Direction (Lee Min Jie)


Description of individual ideation

I’m designing the direction to get to Tree Top Walk, Kedah. I will show a few of bus companies that provide services to get to Kedah. The information is attracted and put into simpler yet detail manner so that readers do not get confused.


Objective of the link

My purpose of providing this link is to ease the readers to get the information that they need before they start their journey. In this page, I will provide the way and map to get there, the public transport that provide the services to Kedah to reduce the potential of getting lost.

Design of GUI


The picture above is my design of GUI. For the navigation bar, it will just same like the buttons in our blog, which contains introduction, accommodation, direction, people’s view, operating office hours & contact information and activities about Tree Top Walk, Kedah. For the button part, I will create 3 of it, which are How to get there, Public transportation and Map.
By clicking the button of "How to get there”, it will show a very simple text form body content with few pictures.

By clicking the button of "Public transportation", the content will include the bus companies that provide the services to Kedah and there will be a flash video for bus pictures.

By clicking the "Map" button, you can find several types of maps to get to Tree Top Walk, Kedah.


Flow of chart



According to the flowchart, I will divide my direction link into 3 sections, which are How to get there, Public transportation and Map. I will use Adobe Photoshop in editing the pictures and map that I get from internet. Last but not least, Adobe Dreamweaver will be used to create my page and hyperlink all the links that I provided.

FINAL OUTCOME

The pictures below are my final outcome:




*As you can see, I have uploaded two pictures with the same designs but the overall color of the pictures is different. It is the effect and surprise that I had found during the progress. Throughout the process that I provided, you can find the reason and way that can make such effect.

# Please browsing my blog by following the sequence that list under “Blog Archive”. I had used the Adobe Photoshop CS5 version to create the E-wallpaper.

Process 4 –start set up an e-wallpaper

  • Insert “MMU E-bee” pictures,
          Step 1:

        
After open the picture of MMU E-bee, in the “Tools” panel, choose “Rectangular Marquee Tool” > select the whole picture of the MMU E-bee > press “Ctrl + C” to copy the picture

          Step 2 &Step 3: 


Open the FOM Open Day E-wallpaper file, press “Ctrl + V” to paste the picture of MMU E-bee as a new layer into the E-wallpaper file

Choose “Edit” > select “Free Transform” to resize the new layer that I pasted > I move the new layer to the area that I want to put > I double click the new layer to deselect

  • Insert “MMU Logo”

            Step 1: 


After open the picture of MMU Logo, in the “Tools” panel, chooses “Rectangular Marquee Tool” > select the whole picture of the MMU E-bee > go to “Edit” > click “Copy Merged” to copy entirely adjusted layer

            Step 2 & Repeat Step 3:


Open the FOM Open Day E-wallpaper file, press “Ctrl + V” to paste the MMU Logo as a new layer into the E-wallpaper file

            Insert “WORD”

            Step 1 & Step 2: 


In the “Tools” panel, select “Horizontal Type tool” > draw a text book on the E-wallpaper > Type “FOM OPEN DAY”

Select “Toggle the Character and Paragraph” panels > from there, I change the format of the word that I typed > click “Create Warped Text” > from there, I changed the style of the word format.

            Step 3 & Step 4:


 Choose “Edit” > select “Free Transform” to resize the Text box > I move the text box to the area that I want to put > I double click the new layer to deselect.

Double click the layer of “FOM OPEN DAY” > select “Drop Shadow”, “Bevel and Emboss-Texture” and “Gradient Overlay” to change the format of the word

            # Repeat the all the steps for the word creation for “21st MARCH 2012”, TIME &   VENUE”, “HI”


            
            Insert “FOM Building & Business man”

            # I repeat the first 3 steps as the steps of insert MMU Logo



            Insert the picture of “Business Team”

            # I repeat the first 3 steps as the steps on moving MMU E-bee



            Step 4:


           In the “Layer” panel, adjust the “Opacity” and “Fill” to make the picture has blending effect
Ø  Decrease the “Opacity” option to 80%
Ø  Decrease the “Fill” option to 88%

Insert the picture of “Key to success”

 # I repeat the first 3 steps as the steps on moving MMU E-bee



Insert “Custom Shape”

Step 1 & Step 2:


In the “Tools” panel, select “Custom Shape Tool” > click “Shape” > Click “All” > Click “OK” when there is a prompt out option box

I choose the shape I want, for example: footprints and handprints > I draw on the empty space of my E-wallpaper

Step 3:


Select the footprints / handprints’ layer that I want to color > I double click the layer that I want, and then choose the color from the option box that prompts out.

# Once I put the custom shape, I can make the MMU Logo look like has two hands and say “HELLO, WELCOME”


# If unpick the “Color Balance 2”, you can find that my E-wallpaper can change to other color. Please try it, and thus I will post and summit 2 types version.



Process 3 – combine the picture


The pictures that I want to combine are the picture of FOM Building and the business man. I will move the every types of business man into the FOM Building’s picture. 

Below are the way I gone through:

 *As you can see, there are 5 types of business man, I will start from the 1st row and from the left to right.


            Step 1: 


               After open the picture of business man, in the “Tools” panel, chooses “Quick  Selection Tool” > select the 1st type of business man > press “Ctrl + C” to copy the area that I select

Step 2 & Step 3: 


Open the FOM Building’s picture, press “Ctrl + V” to paste the area as a new layer into the FOM Building’s picture
           
Choose “Edit” > select “Free Transform” to resize the new layer that I place > I move the new layer to the area that I want to put > I double click the new layer to deselect

*I repeat these 3 steps until I have done with all of the movement between pictures
Process 2: modify the picture that I want to use

For the 1st picture – MMU e-bee,

          Step 1: 

            Choose “File” > select “Open” > Choose the picture of MMU E-bee > click “Open”
*As you can see that, the picture of MMU e-bee is in jpg format, so I need to change it to psd file.

Step 2: 

           
           Step 2: Choose “File” > select “Save As” > under the format column, choose “Photoshop (*PSD,*PDD) > I Put the file name that i want, for example like MMU e-bee > click “Save”

# For this picture, I will not do any adjustment first; I will continue the usage of this picture at the next process

For the 2nd picture – MMU logo,

            # Repeat the Step 1 & Step 2

           As you can see, this picture had too many blank places, therefore I will crop it

           Step 3:


           In the “Tools” panel, choose “Crop Tool” > I highlight the area of picture that i need to use > I double click the picture, the crop is done

 I keep crop it until there is not much blank place around it

As you can see, the upper left part of the picture had a small size of dark color places, so I decide to eliminate it

Step 4: 

In the “Tools” panel, choose “Clone Stamp Tool” > press “Alt” and clone the white area of the picture > Stamp it on the upper left part black area of the picture

During the process, I zoom in the picture so that I can see more clearly and I keep changing the size of the brush so that I can eliminate all the black area clearly

For the 3rd picture – FOM Building

# Repeat the Step 1 & Step 2

As you can see, the color of the picture is darker, so I will make some adjustment to make it brighter.

Step 3:

In the Adjustments Panel, choose “Brightness/Contrast” >
Ø  under the “Brightness” option,
      - increase the option to 48
Ø  under the “Contrast” option,
- decrease the option to -26

Step 4: 

In the Adjustments Panel, choose “Exposure” >
Ø  under the “Exposure” option,
- increase the option to +0.24
Ø  under the “Gamma Correction” option,
- increase the option to 1.10
Ø  no changes for the “Offset” option

In the picture, there are two people standing at there, I decide to eliminate them

Step 5:

In the “Tools” panel, choose “Clone Stamp Tool” > press “Alt” and clone the ground area of the picture > Stamp it on the two people of the picture

During the process, I zoom in the picture so that I can see more clearly and I keep changing the size of the brush so that I can eliminate all the black area clearly

For the 4th, 5th & 6th picture – business man, key to success, business team

# Repeat the Step 1 & Step 2

# For these pictures, I will not do any adjustment first; I will continue the usage of this picture at the next process
Process 1: create a new file and a colorful background


*i save the file every time once I have done the adjustment


Step 1: Open a new psd file


Choose “File > New > Under Name column-type the name of file, for example like “FOM Open Day E-wallpaper” > Under the “Preset” column – choose “International Paper” > Under the “Size” column – choose “A4” > click “OK”

Step 2: Unlock the “Background” Layer

In the Layers Panel, select the “Background” Layer > Double click the “Background” Layer to unlock the layer, then it will prompt out a “New Layer” option box > Under Name column - type the name of layer, for example like “Background” > Click “OK”

Step 3: Change the “Background” Layer Style


In the Layers Panel, select the “Background” Layer > Double click the “Background” Layer, a “Layer Style” option box will prompt out > Click the “Gradient Overlay” > Click “OK”

*As you can see, the “Background layer” has change to a “White-Black” Gradient Overlay style.

Step 4: Change the “Gradient Overlay” style

In the Layers Panel, under the “Background” Layer has shown a effects of “Gradient Overlay”, double click the “Gradient Overlay”, then it will prompt out a “Layer Style” option box which show the option of “Gradient Overlay” > Click the “Gradient” column, a option box of “Gradient Editor” will prompt out > Under the “Presets” , choose the last figure which name is “Neutral Density” > click “OK” > Click “OK” again when it return to the “Layer Style” option box.

*As you can see, the “Background layer” style has changed to a more light grey form.

Step 5: Change the “Gradient Overlay” style’s colors

In the Adjustments Panel, choose “Color Balance” >

  • under the “Midtones” option,
    • increase the color option of “Cyan-Red” to +68
    • decrease the color option of “Magenta-Green” to -1
    • increases the color option of “Yellow-Blue” to +66
  • under the “Shadows” option,
    • decrease the color option of “Cyan-Red” to -19
    • increase the color option of “Magenta-Green” to +48
    • decrease the color option of “Yellow-Blue” to -48

  • under the “Highlights” option,
    •  increase the color option of “Cyan-Red” to +59
    • decrease the color option of “Magenta-Green” to -6
    • decrease the color option of “Yellow-Blue” to -20
  * Always make sure “Preserve Luminosity” is ticked

Click the “Layers” Panel to return to the layer view. As you can see, the “Gradient Overlay” style’s colors have change to a more colorful color.

Assignment 1 - E-wallpaper

Final Outcome


            For this e-wallpaper assignment, I have prompt out an idea of colorful design. This colorful design idea not only for the creation of a colorful e-wallpaper, it also include a meaning like “You will have a colorful university life in MMU”. Therefore, in the process of making e-wallpaper, I will try my best to do a colorful e-wallpaper by using Adobe Photoshop in order to fulfill my target idea and meaning.
